Family Transitional Shelter

The Family Transitional Shelter was developed in response to the growing need of a program to assist families who are in limbo due to socio and economic hardship. Parents are without shelter for themselves and their children, and many times have lost a job as well. A case manager helps families develop a goal-oriented program that allows them to attain skills in money management, parents and budgeting. Education is stressed and many of the clients return to school to get their high school diploma and/or enroll in the local community college. With guidance from the case manager and commitment from families, their lives become stable and can move forward towards a happy, productive future full of promise.

Meals are provided daily thanks to various volunteer businesses and organizations from within and outside the Santa Maria area.

Our dining hall and over-flow shelter provides food preparation and dining facilities, as well as day programs for our clients, including job and life skills training.

Do I qualify?

You need to have a stable income and the desire to be committed and work diligently towards responsible independence in a group setting.

Is there a fee?

Yes, you will be required to pay 30% of your monthly gross income.

Ex: if you earn $1000 per month before taxes, your rent will be $300.

How long can I stay?

This is a two-year program, but if you complete your goals earlier, you are not required to remain for two full years.

What about my part?

You will be required to attend trainings and meetings, keep your own room clean and neat and participate in group chores. You will also have to save money towards getting your own home or apartment. You need to be willing to work closely with your case manager, who will guide you through the process.

If I qualify, what is the next step?

You will need to:
