Charlene's Closet is a collaborative program of Good Samaritan Services, Inc. (GSSI) serving low-income families throughout the community with dignity and respect through the following free support services:
- A grocery store with personal shopper assistance in food selection
- A seasonal boutique serving important needs throughout the year
- A toy store where parents choose birthday and holiday gifts for their children
The Grocery Store
Shopping assistants are available to support clients with grocery shopping for their families. The emphasis on client choice accommodates individual family needs and consumption, and minimizes the waste common to traditional food pass-out programs due to food allergies, dietary restrictions, etc.
The food market is open year-round with shopping appointments available Monday through Friday (9 a.m. - 1 p.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m. - 12 p.m.).
The Boutique
The boutique is open year-round to serve the following seasonal needs:
- January - Coats & Clothes
- February - Valentine's Day
- March - Spring Cleaning
- April - Easter & Prom
- May - Prom & Mother's Day
- June - Father's Day
- July - Literacy Program & Summer Fun
- August - Back-to-School
- September - Homecoming
- October - Halloween
- November - Thanksgiving
- December - Holiday Stocking Stuffers
The Toy Store
The toy store exists for one reason alone...every child deserves to play!
Appointments are available year-round for birthday gift shopping and during the holiday season for holiday gift shopping.
Client Referrals
Clients are identified and referred through community agencies (such as county services, social service agencies, schools, and churches). Clients must meet federal low-income guidelines to be eligible for services. For more information on client referrals, contact us at Good Samaritan.
